Luxury Home Builders in Brisbane: What a Luxury Build Involves

If you are planning a luxury home in Brisbane, you will have noticed that the word "luxury" is attached to a lot of houses. The finishes look similar in the photos, and it can be hard to tell what separates one builder from another. In our experience the difference is rarely the stone or the glazing. It is how carefully the home is set out, how the trades are sequenced around the details, and how well the work you never see is done.
Flascon Construction Group is a boutique builder based in Greenslopes, working across Brisbane and South East Queensland. Below is what a luxury build involves from our side, and four of the homes that show it.
The Homes
Somme House, Ashgrove. A home in Brisbane's inner north-west where the design, the finishes and the build all had to hold together, and did.
Aloomba House, Balmoral. Built on one of the inner east's most established streets, where the neighbouring homes set the standard the finish had to meet.
Pinedale House, Morningside. A family home that sits comfortably among the new builds around it, with the detailing to match.
Arrol Estate, Camp Hill. An inner-suburban block in the suburb where much of our work is, and the kind of site that tests a builder before the finishes arrive.
The full range of completed homes is on our projects page.
What Goes Into a Luxury Build
- Set-out and tolerances. Shadow-line ceilings, recessed skirtings and full-height doors leave no room for a slab or frame that is out of level. The finishes chosen for these homes show every millimetre that a standard finish would hide.
- Long-lead items. Custom windows, stone, joinery and imported tiles can take months to arrive. In a luxury home nearly everything is specified rather than standard, so nearly everything has to be ordered before the frame goes up.
- Sequencing. Book-matched stone is templated once the joinery is in. A flush ceiling grille means the ducting is set before the battens. Details like these change the order the trades arrive in, and a supervisor who has run them before keeps that order tight.
- The work nobody sees. Waterproofing, flashings, box gutters behind parapets, drainage at flush thresholds. None of it photographs. All of it decides how the home performs in a Brisbane storm.
If you are still at the design stage, our guide to luxury house design and our look at seven enduring luxury house designs cover that side of it.
How Flascon Works
Flascon was founded in 2017 by Jay Flaskos and remains a boutique builder that takes on a select number of projects at a time. The team brings more than 30 years of combined industry experience and is QBCC licensed (licence 15050857).
We offer a complete design and construct service, and we also build from architectural plans you already have. Either way, the first conversation is about the block, because in Brisbane the block decides so much: the slope, the overlays, the flood mapping and the street access all shape a luxury home before the design is drawn. Many of our completed homes are on the steeper sites of the inner south and east, and our sloping block specialists page explains what that involves.
Common Questions
Who are the best luxury home builders in Brisbane? There is no official ranking, and any list you find online is somebody's opinion. A better test is to look at a builder's completed homes at the level of finish you want, check their licence on the QBCC register, and ask about the blocks they have built on.
What makes a home a luxury home? Less the size or the price than the standard of execution. A luxury home is one where the set-out, the sequencing and the detailing let high-end finishes sit exactly as they were designed to, and where the unseen work behind them is done to the same standard.
Does a luxury home take longer to build? Often, because more of the materials are specified rather than standard and each detail takes coordination between trades. Ordering long-lead items early and finalising selections before construction recovers most of that time. Our guide to how long it takes to build a house in Brisbane explains where the time goes.
Do Flascon build luxury homes on sloping blocks? Yes. It is one of the things Flascon specialises in, and a good share of our completed homes are on blocks with a significant fall.
